OUR MANDATE
The Botswana Teaching Professionals Council (BOTEPCO) under the Ministry of Education and Skills Development is a regulatory body established through the provisions of the Botswana Teaching Professionals Council Act, No. 22 of 2019.
The Mandate of The Council is to;
- Regulate the teaching profession;
- Maintain professional and ethical standards for teachers, which include teaching knowledge, skills and competence;
- License teachers;
- Advise on teacher training issues;
- Advocate for the teaching profession;
- Maintain a register of teachers;
- Establish, publish, review and maintain a Code of Ethics for teachers;
- Monitor adherence to the Code of Ethics under paragraph (g);
- Review and advise on professional standards for teachers;
- Determine the grounds for refusal or withdrawal of registration where necessary;
- Determine the criteria and procedures for registration;
- Consider and decide on any application for registration;
- Promote continuing education, training and professional development of teachers;
- Establish panels to investigate and hear complaints against teachers;
- Ensure a fair hearing is held in accordance with the procedure determined by the Board; and
- Conduct research to inform quality teaching.
