BOTEPCO is a corporate body established under the provisions of the Botswana Teaching Professionals Council. The BOTEPCO Board was inaugurated in 2020 and it is constituency-based. As per the BOTEPCO Act No. 22 of 2019 states, this Board of the Council is the governing body of the Council and Constitutes the following.
Chairperson representatives from the existing registered and recognized teacher unions, special education needs, public school heads, Botswana Qualifications Authority Act, a registered private schools teacher association the Registrar who shall be an ex-off cio member, representatives from parent-teacher associations, the Ministry of Education & Skills Development, an educational business organization, a retired school head; and one retired school inspector.
Teachers, learners, parents, teacher representative unions and associations, Ministry of Education & Skills Developments, relevant parastals various government departments, and the community at large.
The Teacher Registration and Licensing will start once all the processes are in place and this entails working closely with all the stakeholders. Amongst those to be developed are teaching Standards, the Code of Ethics, the Subscription amounts, the IT Registration and Licensing System.
An ideal teacher should subscribe to the Domains of Teacher Professional Standards and competencies such as; Professional knowledge and understanding, Professional values and commitment, Professional partnerships, and professional leadership. The teacher should;
Set high expectations that inspire, motivate, and challenge learners
Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
Plan and teach well-structured lessons
Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of learners
Make accurate and productive use of assessments
Manage behaviors effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
Fulfil wider professional responsibilities.
Demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct
