BOTEPCO TO CONDUCT A STRESS TESTING ON TEACHER LICENSING REGISTRATION SYSTEM
The Botswana Teaching Professionals Council (BOTEPCO) is set to conduct a stress testing exercise of the Teacher Registration and Licensing System (TRLS). The stress test is meant to ascertain the tenacity and readiness of the system in preparation for the envisaged Go Live/Launch of the system.
This process marks a key milestone in BOTEPCO’s mission to regulate the teaching profession and uphold high professional and ethical standards across Botswana.
The exercise will involve a deliberately intense and thorough testing of the system to determine its stability and performance under a predetermined volume of traffic. In this scenario, the system will be opened for 1 (one) hour in which a selected population of teachers are expected to log in the system to make online applications. Concurrently BOTEPCO officers will be processing the applications and approving the registration. Teachers will then be expected to make online payment using mock credit card details to complete the transaction. Upon successful completion, the system will issue a mock digital license, demonstrating the final product of the registration and licensing process.
In line with BOTEPCO’s commitment to privacy and data security, all information gathered during this exercise will be removed from the system afterward. The stress test will assist BOTEPCO to gauge the performance and stability of the system as well as measure efficiency of processing of applications by staff.
The much anticipated Stress Test is scheduled for Thursday 21st November, 2024 and will run from 11:30am to 12:30am with a total of twenty five schools private and state regions owned schools selected across seven regions. These schools were shortlisted based on the strength of their bandwidth, as it is important to have as many teachers participate within a controlled time. This stress test serves as the final phase in assessing the platform’s reliability and performance before going live, as it prepares to streamline and automate teacher registration and licensing nationwide.
Botswana Teaching Professionals Council is a newly established Body Corporate mandated to professionalize teaching by maintaining professional and ethical standards, registering and licensing teachers, and advocating for the teaching profession in Botswana.

Delivering the BOTEPCO mandate presentation, Manager Teacher Registration Mr. Shadrack Botshelo emphasized that once the Registration Process starts, it will be a requirement for teachers to be registered and licensed by BOTEPCO in order to practice legally and there will be penalties for non-compliance affecting both individuals and employers for state and private schools nationwide. He reassured attendees that student teachers will receive registration certificates during their studies and will apply for teaching licenses upon graduation and employment.
